Person with No Half-moon on their Fingernails Could be Suffering from Illness?

September 5, 2019 By proudbrown

Have you noticed that white, half-moon shape on your fingernails? This part where the nails are attached to the finger and cuticle is called lunula. It’s called lunulae in its plural form. Not everyone has it on their fingernails and sometimes, it may be a sign of a health condition or vitamin deficiency. The visibility of lunula depends on the color of the skin among other factors. Though not everyone who has no lunula has a medical condition, it’s better to discuss this with your doctor to avoid the occurrence of health problems in the future.

These are the health conditions that may be the reason for the lunulae to disappear;

  • Lung and Heart Disease

Some people that have these health conditions may have red lunulae. The shape and texture of the nails may also have some noticeable changes aside from experiencing symptoms such as chest pain, coughing, or shortness of breath. These are the possible conditions; collagen vascular disease, heart failure, and COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease).

  • Anemia

One of the most common symptoms of anemia is paleness thus making the lunulae invisible.
Anemia happens when the red blood cells that are supposed to carry the iron-rich hemoglobin don’t function completely or if the body is not capable of producing an ample amount of red blood cells. This can result in oxygen deficiency and paleness.

  • Cirrhosis

This is a serious liver condition wherein there are damages and scars in the liver. These factors affect the function of the liver. People may get this disease if they have to drink too much alcohol and are inflicted with diabetes. It mostly affects the male species and those over fifty years of age.
The lunulae may turn red while the nails may turn white.

  • Kidney Failure

Patients with kidney failure do not have lunula and this might be due to anemia. One of the most common causes of anemia is kidney failure so it’s best to see a doctor if you are anemic.
There’s a brown band on the fingertip of a person with kidney failure.

1.Malnourishment

If you’re on an extreme diet, there are medical conditions that might affect your body and prevent it from absorbing needed nutrients. Eating disorders may also be one of the reasons why the half-moon won’t be visible in the nails. Vitamin B-12 deficiency also causes the lunulae to disappear and may also make one develop nails that are brownish.

2.Wilson disease

This is a genetic disorder which may cause hazardous levels of copper to accumulate inside the body. The symptoms may include; tremors, difficulty in walking, depression, liver failure, and clumsiness. People affected by Wilson disease have blue lunulae.

3.Vitiligo

This is a serious skin condition wherein the skin loses color and in patches. When your body attacks the melanocytes which are the cells of the skin responsible for giving color, there will be white or pink patches.
There is a chance of developing changes in the nails when one has vitiligo. Other health conditions may develop when one has vitiligo such as thyroid problems and becoming more sensitive to sunburn.

4.Silver Poisoning

Changes in the appearance of nails can be a symptom of argyria. This is one kind of poisoning that is caused by too much exposure to silver.
The lunulae on the toenails may remain white but the eyes, face and head of the person may turn into blue.

The nails are one of the indicators of one’s state of health so if you notice changes in your nails, it’s best to have a doctor check on you.

SSS Members Who Lost Their Jobs May Receive Up to 10k Monthly

February 25, 2019 By proudbrown

The new law signed by President Duterte can be good news to all SSS members as it gives the privilege to claim for unemployment assistance. Losing a job can cause difficulty in a person’s life particularly in meeting the daily needs.

Social Security System (SSS) members who are about to lose their work may now claim an unemployment insurance benefit amounting to up to Php 10,000.00. The unemployment insurance also referred to as involuntary benefits under the SSS is among the provisions of the Social Security act of 2019 (R.A Act no. 11199).

According to the legislation’s principal author, Senator Richard Gordon, the provision of this involuntary separation benefit is the first of its kind in the history of the country. SSS members may be able to claim up to ten thousand pesos a month if they had been paying their SSS contribution under the maximum amount of the salary credit. The money can be used by the member to find another job – fast. Members are only allowed to claim benefit equivalent to 50% of their average salary credit per month for a maximum of 2 months.

Only SSS members whose age is 60 below can make a claim. To qualify for the said benefit, they should also have made at least thirty-six months of contributions. The member should have made the 12 months of the contribution within the eighteen-month period before the involuntary separation or unemployment.  Unemployed SSS members can only claim a benefit once every 3 years.

Apart from the involuntary benefit, the R.A 11199 also has a provision that makes all overseas Filipino workers (OFW) who ages 60 below an automatic member of SSS. Currently, SSS has 500,000 OFW members. Since the signing of the legislation, the number of SSS members is expected to increase to two and a half million.

Although the unemployed SSS members may find the new law beneficial, some may not be too happy about the factors of it. From the current 11% contribution rate, members need to deal with a 1% increase every 2 years until the rate reaches 15% in 2025.

Starting a Small Business in 2019 Shouldn’t Cost You Money

February 11, 2019 By proudbrown

Many people dream of having their own business. Many of these people dream it because for them, having their own business means having the luxury of getting to many places and it’s always relaxation time but that’s far from the truth. Having a business means you need to be hands-on with the aspects of your business.

Some people might also think that you need a lot to open a business. On the contrary, there are some businesses that will only require you to shell out a small amount of money. Here’s what you can do to make your dream a reality.

• Do Your Research

Owning a business can be time consuming. Before opening it, you need to do background check on the type of business you want. In the Philippines alone, there are already thousands if not hundreds of thousands of businesses for a particular product so what will make yours stand out?

That’s not the only questions you need to answer. You find out about your target clients, your brand and how you plan to make your business succeed. It’s better if the feasibility of the business you plan has facts to support it. You can either hire an expert with feasibility studies or do the study yourself but thorough about this.

The research process can also include asking the opinions and ideas of your colleagues, family and friends. What they have to say can be helpful or not, positive or differing, delightful, etc. but good or bad it can help you a lot as you go on your way to opening your business.

Just a friendly reminder, don’t quit your job yet when you’re still in the process of researching. To add, most successful business owners who didn’t have a lot didn’t quit their jobs until their businesses are already doing well. You can follow their steps and tweak along the way.

• Be a Good Networker

Having a substantial amount of social circle can help you in the long run. These people can either be your future clients, partners, suppliers and even promoters. Don’t be afraid to get out there and talk to people about your ideas and gain new friends who will support you when you open your business.

Having the right network of people won’t cost you anything because these could be people from work, events you’ll attend and other social gatherings while you’re still working. Make sure that you already know what you’re going to tell these people beforehand. By knowing what you’re saying, you show them that you also know what you’re doing and your business can be lucrative in the near future.

• Don’t Get Frustrated

This is what you need to know. Success can’t happen overnight. It may take years even decades for some for success to happen but it can also happen sooner than you think as long as you are willing to do a lot of legwork.

That said; you also must realize that it’s more practical to if you avoid having too much expenses like an office. You don’t need that for a start-up company. In fact, when you’re starting you can do the work yourself.

• Testing the Waters

The advantage of working by yourself is that you’ll learn the ins and outs of the business you chose. Working alone means that aside from learning the ins and outs, you also don’t lose too much because you didn’t invest too much money in the business that didn’t need to be spent.

• Outsourcing

You can run a successful start-up business by outsourcing everything the business needs. You can also ask the help of friends and family to support your business. Aside from that you can get investors, capitalists, crowd funders, and government grants and loans.

Having your own business is a dream come true for many. If you want to reach for your dreams of having a business then don’t forget that you will undergo many obstacles. It won’t be easy but when you want to do something, you can reach it through patience, perseverance, and trying to reach out to as many people as you can.
