Teachers are considered a child’s second parent. Aside from the parents, the teachers are the ones responsible for instilling the right values in children. Most of the time, they also learn to love their students like their own. This was proven by Jessica Hayloni, a MAPEH (Music, Arts, Physical Education, and Health) teacher in Iloilo City High School in Molo, Iloilo when she carried her student to avoid the flood. The teacher didn’t mind bearing the weight of the student as long as it will prevent her from any harm that can be encountered in crossing the flooded street.

A netizen, Regina Sasana Escueta posted on her Facebook account regarding the incident that she had witnessed. It was seen in her post how the teacher carried her student so that she won’t get leptospirosis. Leptospirosis is a dangerous bacterial disease that can be acquired from the urine of rats. She was aware that the student has a wound in her foot and it would be dangerous for her to submerge in the water. The classes were suspended at that time because of the heavy rains. The act of the teacher gained admiration from the netizens who saw the post. Many netizens commented that the act of the teacher was worth posting and can serve as an inspiration to fellow teachers. Many wished that there will be more teachers who will have that concern for their students.

Seeing a post like this is such a welcome respite on the online world. It will remind people that despite the seemingly worsening situations nowadays, there are still people around who care for the welfare of other people. There are still those that are willing to take risks to help those who are in need. This only goes to show that kind and compassionate people still exist.
